The High Line

It does seem that the new york’s newest park, the high line, has been under discussion for a very long time with incredible publicity generated by lots of high end support (“friends of the high line” includes quite a list of developers, politicians and celebrities like ed norton, stella mccartney and sarah jessica parker).

Originally an elevated rail line built in the 1930s to carry freight trains from 14th street up to 34th street on the east side, this 60-foot track is in the process of being transformed into a mile and a half park packed with benches, water features, kids play areas and landscaping.

  1. Very Cool! Anytime you can have a beautiful park in a city--that's good stuff :) But i don't quite understand the location, is it still elevated? How dos that work then? An Elevated PArk?

  2. Yes, it's more of a walkway than a park, but indeed it is elevated. and very cool. I took my sister Sarah and her friend, when she visited. While on our walk we were stopped by a public radio reporter who wanted us to comment on a recent lawsuit waged against the city because of some raised design flourishes along the path. While nearly everyone who's experienced the High Line has loved it, it's true that you can't please all the people all the time. Definitely worth a visit if you happen to be in NYC.
